I am a resident of Holland and am extremely excited about the prospects this is bringing to the area. We (like the rest of Michigan) are very linked to the Automotive industry and have had our share of economic problems. Though we have been far luckier then many other areas having a fair amount of diversity in our industry and a decent amount of tourism.

The reality is that these individual plants aren't going to bring that many jobs by themselves to the area, but I believe the whole benefit is much greater then the simple sum of jobs in this case. I think this is laying the groundwork for us to be a vital part of the future of personal transportation.

BTW, if you've never been to the West Michigan coastline before, you are truly missing out. The regional area of Holland, Grand Haven and Saugatuck is a fantastic area to visit with some of the best beaches in the world (according to Conde Nast and MTV)! And the drive up US31 to Traverse City is fantastic all year, especially during the fall colors. Gallup ranked us the second happiest town in America recently, between Boulder, CO and Honolulu, HI!

Anyway, enough shilling.. My personal goal is to see if I can get a hold of some of these batteries myself, as a DIY'er who is planning on converting a car to electric. Wish me luck!
