On the heels of an announcement by the British government that Ford would get $550 million in government loan guarantees, Ford has said they will invest $2.3 billion in Britain over the next five years to modernize their facilities and build the next generation of fuel-efficient cars and powertrains — including clean diesel and EcoBoost technologies.
Ford of Britain chairman, Joe Greenwell, said, “Ford welcomes this positive support from the government. It greatly assists in delivering Ford’s commitment to invest £1.5 billion ($2.3 billion US) in new, affordable, volume-produced low CO2 technologies… the overall environment will benefit thanks to the mass-deployment, volume-produced emission-reducing technologies from Ford.”
Ford said the investment will also benefit the 100,000 people in the UK whose jobs are directly or indirectly dependent on Ford.
Now, if only we could get Ford to invest some money in bringing clean diesel small cars to the US. The clean diesel thing seems to be working well for VW and Audi. Why not Ford too?
