[Update 3/10/2010: Porsche says they will build the 918 Spyder]
What is Porsche doing to me? I had just gotten over my teenage-like, eco-speed-lust with the 918 Spyder hybrid from yesterday’s announcement, and now Porsche has to go and release a video showing it actually driving? It’s not right. A man can only take so much.
As if just seeing pictures of a car that can get 78 mpg yet get from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds wasn’t enough.
The video is actually pretty cool, highlighting the fact that the earliest cars ever made were, indeed, electric. And until the oil industry took over, that’s the future the automakers of the time were imagining. It may be 100 years past due, but we’re now witnessing a gigantic rebirth of electrified mobility–and super car makers like Porsche are cashing in on the fact that electricity can provide incredible sports and environmental performance at the same time.
Check out the video below, and yesterday’s post for more info on the 918 Spyder concept.

I’ve died and gone to heaven! This is my idea of the perfect car.

That is one attractive car.

I want one. Bad.
…and that was some excellent CGI

Thank You Porsche! And since you have a history of actually building your concepts (unlike most other carmakers), bring it fast! Can’t wait to see you blow these Micky Mouse cars (Tesla and alike) out of the water …
