For nearly as long as there have been cars, there have been songs about cars. Seeing as how most cars have radios, music and automobiles have always sort of gone together. From “409″ by the beach boys celebrating the Chevy engine of the same displacement to “Z28″ by Static X, there are many ways to croon about cars.
But really, the all new Chevy Volt song sounds like it belongs on an iPod commercial. Subliminal messaging anyone?
Titled Chevy Volt and Me, the song somehow manages to rhyme together most of the basic aspects of a plug-in hybrid in a cheery and happy tune. There should be some happy frolicking forest creatures bouncing around somewhere whenever this song plays. GM plans to play the song at auto shows across the country to raise awareness…or brain wash would-be consumers. The song played once per hour at the LA Auto Show, as it will at other shows.
The point was to create a catchy, informative, family friendly song, and they certainly got that. Chevy must think there is still a segment of America that hasn’t heard of the Volt, and they may be right. So a repetitive song is a good way of disseminating information. Even though the song has been stuck in my head all day, I think it deserves a place on the Ultimate List of Car Songs. Give the song a listen and chime in with your thoughts.
