Overall, it may be a good thing to avoid diesels. Although I loved my '02 TDi Jetta, the reason I got rid of it was the worry about the big whiff of diesel exhaust my kids and I would get everytime I'd get out of my car in the garage.

Hi, I really like the VW -- though they need to come up with a better name for it; Up! Lite indeed.

I'd like it even better if they dropped the fancy 7-speed transmission and dual clutch and then upsized the electric motor a bit and the battery pack -- and made it a plug in serial hybrid.

Sincerely, Neil

Well now let's see. The American auto makers demonstrated just how well they knew what the consumer wanted when they (two) of them built so badly that Obama felt justified in forcing them through bankruptcy, but only after making sure that the Federal Government would effectively own them.

Now these same people refuse to produce, or import from their European or Asian plants or partners a good diesel vehicle or engine for their domestic sale. These same people claim that we won't buy one. Well if there is not one available, they will be proven correct. But the reason that they will give is a LIE.

It seems that my next car will be foreign. My previous one was a 1961 Volvo PV544 Sport. (Many of the components were of American manufacture or designed by American companies.) That apparently won't be true of the next one.
