Spectators at next years Sonoma Showdown at California’s Infineon Raceway will be treated to something they’ve never seen before – the nation’s first ever zero-carbon motorcycle race.
The Sonoma County event, known as the Time Trial eXtreme Grand Prix, will form part of the AMA Motorcycle Sonoma Showdown weekend, May 14-16.
According to Infineon President Steve Page, “When it comes to development of zero-carbon motorcycles, Northern California is the center of the industry, so it makes perfect sense that Infineon Raceway should host the first event in the historic new series.”
A range of TTXGP bikes, similar to the forthcoming Mavizen TTX02, first competed at the Isle of Man earlier this year. Spectators at the 2010 Sonoma event can expect a race lasting some 30 minutes, with 15 to 25 bikes topping out at speeds above 100 mph.

This is total BS…
How much carbon was required in the first place to create the bikes, the race track, get the spectators and riders to the event?
You don’t get something for nothing.

Gee Greg,
Are you going to tell us that you are completely harmless to the atmosphere? Do you never release Methane, a much worse atmospheric contaminant than CO2, into the air yourself? How do you avoid the natural processes of your own digestive tract?

Well, ChuckL – I think Greg was pointing out almost the same thing you did, that there is no such thing as zero-carbon. He didn’t claim to be carbon-free, he was just pointing out the folly of doing exactly that.
I would prefer they called the race an electric-bike race. Simple, accurate, to the point. Otherwise people might try to enter an ethanol or hydrogen powered bike, that’s just as zero-carbon as electric.
Besides, what’s wrong with carbon? Isn’t it carbon-dioxide that’s bad? Or are we against all forms of carbon now, like diamonds, graphite, and carbon-based life forms?

Well I believe people should start to think about how alarming global warming can be. No matter how small the carbon content might be for one motorbike…I mean it might not be harmless to the environment but millions of motorcycles all spewing the small carbon content at the same time in different parts of the world will make a difference to the atmosphere. Hhhhmm interesting blog!
