Mission One Electric Motorcycle Sets AMA Land Speed Record
The Mission One electric superbike set a land speed record of 150 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats for electric bikes on the 1st of September. This record sets the Mission Motors electric motorcycle apart from the herd, proving both the viability and performance capabilities of electric motorbikes. With individual runs as high as 161 MPH, the Mission One achieved speeds faster than 70% of the entrants at the annual BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials.

This was Mission’s first outing to Bonneville, and certainly a successful one. This is also not a one-off bike, but rather a production prototype. San Francisco-based Mission Motors says they are on track to deliver 300 of the bikes by the end of the 2010 model year. The ability to pull off power wheelies at 80 mph and achieve a 161 mph top speed — all with only one transmission gear — puts this squarely in same league as many of the best sports bikes.
Mission promises more than performance though; they estimate their all-electric bike will have a 150 mile range… for the price of a Z06 Corvette, give or take. You didn’t think this bike would be cheap, did you? The princely sum of $68,995 is what it will cost you to get behind the handlebars of this bad boy. But they also claim charging will take no longer than 2 hours out of a 240 volt outlet, or 8 hours in a 120 volt. With 100 ft-lbs of torque on tap starting at 0 RPM, and a torque curve as flat as Bonneville, this bike’s blistering performance may very well be worth it.

Hmm I bet one trip to the flats by the KillaCycle http://www.killacycle.com/ would remove that record as it does 174+ in 1/4 mile, let alone a mile…
I guess that would still leave them the distinction of fastest pre-production prototype.
I’m pretty sure you have to sustain the speed for a mile though. Not saying Killacycle can’t do it, but its about more than “top speed”.
the killacycle can barely make it down the 1/4 mile without breaking something…. i have the worlds fastest electric motorcycle at 176.434 with a 1 way pass of 179.089…. i did that with 34%power…..my bike should be over 200 soon…. AMA records dont mean crap…. check it out at eracebike.com
