The problem with all bio fuels is not that the technology isn't there (it is), it's that there will never be enough biomass available to replace even 10% of our current usage without clear cutting the planet and starving half the people. Nature has had some 500 million years to build up the supplies that we will have squandered in a mere 150years, it will simply not be possible to maintain our current rate of use, even with massive increases in efficiency. The future isn't ethanol trucks and electric cars... the future is bicycles and buses for all! Yield per year per acre… big omission… not to mention what you would do to the soil! The problem with all bio fuels is not that the technology isn’t there (it is), it’s that there will never be enough biomass available to replace even 10% of our current usage without clear cutting the planet and starving half the people.
