We are anticipating a large turnout at this year’s “EV Awareness Day” on Saturday, July 11, at Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Ore. Portland General Electric is proud to sponsor this annual event hosted by the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association.
The PGE team will be on hand to show off its new PGE plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and talk to attendees about our network of more than a dozen charging stations we are installing across the Portland-metro area and Salem.
PGE installed its first newly redesigned electric-vehicle charging station in July 2008 in front of its headquarters at the World Trade Center in Portland. Since then, we have installed more than a dozen plug-in EV charging stations in the in the past year — with more on the way. All the stations are powered by 100 percent renewable energy. During this phase, electric-vehicle owners can power up at any of the stations for free.
We believe these stations will play in important role in of helping our customers who choose more sustainable transportation options when the next-generation of electric vehicles hit the US markets over the next couple of years.
News of our charging stations — along with the fact Portland has the highest per capita hybrid vehicle ownership in the country — helped draw Nissan and Mitsubishi to Oregon to partner with PGE and the state on further developing a charging station network. Both auto manufacturers are targeting Oregon as an introductory market for their EVs.
We hope this weekend’s EV event will draw EV enthusiasts and Oregonians considering EVs to learn more about this sustainable transportation option.

Because Oregon Rocks! (Being a native born Oregonian I’m allowed to feel pride).
I’m very excited about this and you can bet I will be there on Saturday. Now if Toyota will release an affordable plug in Prius, I’m ready to trade up!

I’m also a native Oregonian, and will concur with Jamie that Oregon rocks! Also, in little podunk Corvallis, OR we have at least a couple dedicated parking spots for electric vehicle charging. If the ZAP cars weren’t so danged ugly, I’d be rollin’ in one of those today.
