The title of this topic is what ruined it, not the project. It's called "experimenting" and that is exactly what this project is. You can see this car in person in July 2009 as he will be attending the 2nd Annual GeoPalooza gather..........

If I could hook an electric drive to mt Metro and be able to cruise at road speeds without using gasoline, I would do it. It's a project and not a final release.

Oh, as far as the weight goes, it does not really make much of a difference. I recently drove with 600 LBS of cargo for 6 hours and still netted 50+ MPG with my 1998 model.

I don't see what the advantage is of trying to make it a gas/electric hybrid (at the cost of an extra quarter-ton of weight), given two things. First, the fuel efficiency of a stock Geo Metro was already ridiculously good, up around 50+ MPG with a stick, and in the low 30s with their really mediocre automatic transmission. (Not a week goes by that I don't miss my old Metro LSI convertible. Best car I ever drove.) And second, I was reading an article about a business doing all-electric conversions of Geo Metro convertibles roughly ten years ago.
