First Teaser Pics of Tesla Model S Revealed - It’s Real!

During press interviews on Wednesday, Tesla spokeswoman Rachel Conrad repeated that the Model S was NOT vaporware, and hinted that a teaser shot might be on the way.
So, keeping good to her word, the official teaser pic is here - and while it doesn’t give away much, I have more than enough for some wild speculation. Thoughts and comments after the jump.

The image Tesla delivered doesn’t reveal much, but we can draw some conclusions and certainly compare it to Road & Track’s previously published renderings (Road & Track is not allowing republication of the render, so you’ll have to click through to see it).
Compared to the R&T rendering, the real S looks softer, and more mainstream, seemingly leaving the “aggressive” and “cutting-edge” styling to its cross-town rival, the Fisker Karma.
Compared to the Karma, the Tesla S seems shorter (which makes sense: as a pure EV, the Tesla S doesn’t need to make room for an engine, a radiator, etc.) but also seems to have more passenger room (think late-90’s Chrysler and Iacocca’s “cab-forward” TV spots). Finally, the Tesla seems to be a hatchback, so it should be a bit more useful in as a grocery-getter, as well.
In short: it seems to be more of a car than a status symbol, which is exactly what the EV market needs. We’ll get to see the rest of the car this March.
