VW appeared ready to lead the pack with Ultra light turbo bio diesel/electric plug-ins and possible with H2 injection for power boost. The technologies are their, and well proven, and this is the wiser marketing move for the constipated, "locked in the 1930's sheetmetal, grease pit and hydraulics" style American market. This step makes good sense. Europe, is already metric, and diesel, light, small car loving and on the trains, as is the rest of the world. We await the catch-up process in the 'States and look forward to them adapting to fast trains, fewer planes, and telecommunications in place of personal confrontations. They are growing up fast, OPEC insists on it by raising prices on dwindling oil supplies every chance they get, and Mother Nature is slowly easing them into adulthood in the world.

This is a great article. I am glad to VW experimenting with the different types of propulsion.

I would love to see more diesels in the US and I would love to see VW take on the hydraulic hybrid!

I read a great article about them called "Big Green Trucks" (http://economicefficiency.blogspot.com/2008/12/big-green-trucks.html) It has lots of pictures!
