I just don't understand why everyone is so skippy over rechargeable electrics for their "green" value. The power to recharge them is produced in mostly fossil fuel plants. Some even burn (gasp!) coal to generate the electricity.

Buy it if you like the ride, but wise up and pass if you think you're saving polar bears.

The widespread myth that loud motorcycles are safer has been debunked. Only a safe rider is safe. It's not unlike the incorrect belief that big, heavy cars are safer. In fact, they're less agile and less able to maneuver out of a potential accident. It's active safety vs passive safety.

Electric motorcycles have limited range. They are a developing technology hampered by battery capacity. Even with less range, I'll take an electric over gas any day. Can't stand the smell & grease of gas engines.

You can't compare the HP of a gas engine to electric. Gas engines have pitiful torque at low RPMs so they need oversized engines to compensate. Electrics have maximum torque @ 0 rpm and can take off like a banshee, easily out-accelerating gas bikes with 3-4x the HP. Gas bikes do have the edge in top speed and high-speed throttle (well, unless you spend a fortune on a souped up electric). As with all new technologies, electrics continue to improve. This is the beginning of a new era. Good riddance gas piston engines.

I'm with philc.

Noise-less electric cars = comfortable.

Noise-less electric motorcycles = dangerous.

It's unfortunate.

As an example an 09 Ducati Monster 696 is only $8995, weighs just 355lbs, makes 80HP, 6-Speed Trans, Brembo Brakes, 43mm Showa Inverted Forks, Adjustable Rear Shock, Hydraulic Slipper Clutch, 4Gal. tank that'll get you 150/200 miles on a tank (yeah its not electric and burns fossil fuel)but it's loads of fun!!!.

one thing that stops me from buying this- NO SOUND!!!

while you may hate the loud show-off harleys, bikes that make moderate amounts of noise do keep the rider alive- cars know there is a bike around because of the noise.

perhaps a fake "baseball card in the spokes" sound generator as an option?
