59 MPG Toyota iQ is Coming To the U.S. As a Scion!
Just yesterday I wrote about what I dubbed as “perhaps the ultimate city car,” the 59 MPG Toyota iQ 4-seater. I also bemoaned Toyota for releasing it in Europe but not in the US.

Well, turns out Toyota is bringing the iQ to the US under the Scion badge. Motor Trend, without citing sources, is claiming that the Scion-branded iQ will be shown to the public at the upcoming LA Auto Show next month.

No word on a release date yet, but I’ll be able to bring you more details on the iQ and many other upcoming car releases, both fuel-efficient and alternative, when I visit the LA Auto Show from November 17-20th.

This is great news. Could they have tried to make this car a little more aerodynamic? I mean it’s great that it gets 59 mpg, but I would think they could do a lot better if it wasn’t shaped like a melted Lego.

Very cool. And why again is Ford unable to bring its Ford Fiesta to the USA? These guys at Ford are too stupid to survive.

Actually, Ford IS bringing the new Fiesta to the US for the 2010 model year (so realistically, on sale here sometime next year).

59 mpg sounds good to me do abit of hypermiling and we should do a little better if it falls short by even 10 mpg the 49 would still good for a commuter .right now i get 35mpg with a car that had arough life and is still going so newer smaller and better sounds real good for me and my lunch going to work

It is coming out in roughly 15-18 months, I’ve seen it myself but I can’t say where. Only that the one I saw had a custom 5axis leather interior and wheels.
They’re planning on making them very customizable.
The FUZE concept is also taking shape and will be released along side the iQ. There’s a total of 2 redesigns and 2 new models

Hmmm….59MPG estimated by the Euro Cycle. I was excited when 69MPG was predicted for the Smart ForTwo. Too bad in practice it gets mid 30’s. This car will end up being lucky to get 40mpg, it will be a death box, and won’t be as stylish, luxurious, or economical as a Mini Cooper.

The cars that are getting more miles per gallon, seem to be mostly mini cars. Can’t they design cars with bigger wheels, more clearance from the ground, and taller seats that conserve energy?
