Prince Charles Runs Aston Martin on English Wine
Bonnie Prince Charles, in a symbolic gesture, has converted his 38 year old Aston Martin rag top to run on ethanol, derived from English Wine. Aides said the action was due to the pattern of Royal trips set by the Foreign Office.
Prince Charles Chief Aide, Sir Michael Peat is quoted as saying:
‘Charles only travelled two or three hundred miles a year in the Aston but he wanted it to be environmentally friendly. It just happened that our bioethanol supplier makes the fuel from surplus English wine.’
The Prince has been reducing his carbon footprint, already cutting carbon emissions by 12.5 percent, in line with the Government’s Kyoto target. He has since doubled the target to a 25 percent reduction in emissions by 2018.

Meantime, the article in This Is London states the income from the Prince’s private estate has soared in value as the result of the world food crisis, which has increased land value.
I’m curious about the surplus wine used to make bioethanol fuel. Is that just wine that didn’t make the “grade”, or can’t they get rid of it? Which raises more questions. Anyone have an answer?

It is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. The amount of energy, money and time wasted for him to save a little gas makes no sense. If he drove thousands of miles a month it would have been worth it. And what of all the Rolls-Royces?

I’m sure the French think this must be very funny. Couldn’t think of a better use for British Wine.

I’m not sure David’s interpretation is right – seems according to the statement that he buys ethanol from a distiller!

With regards to the Royal cars, all the Royces and Bentleys were converted to run on liquid petroleum gas a few years back.
Moreover running a classic car on biofuel makes more sense than consuming more resources building a new prius.
Besides for the main events the royals use horses. – also Charles’ cows fart less too.

[...] to biofuel is the least the Queen can do for the environment, and it follows in the heels of Prince Charles converting his Aston Martin to run on ethanol made from English wine. The Bentley conversion will require changing the engines in the Queen’s limos. One of the [...]
