Company Unveils Hydrogen Hybrid Supercar: Available Fall 2008

Ronn Motors Scorpion

Well, here it is folks. A company has finally gone and built the controversial hydrogen hybrid system (or hydrogen injection, or Water4Gas or HHO system – choose your poison) into what appears to be a true production car. Not only that, the car looks, well, stunning… to put it mildly.

Ronn Motors of Austin, Texas, yesterday unveiled what they’re calling “the key to a new generation of “green cars.” The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronn Maxwell, had this to say about it:

“What we are revealing today is an innovation in the automotive industry and demonstrates American ingenuity at a time of real need. We’re designing and building cars with performance components and unique styling with the objective of making the new environmentally friendly vehicle stand out with never before seen style and approximately 40 mpg plus efficiency.”

I recently featured this type of hydrogen-on-demand hybrid system in a Gas 2.0 post about potential fuel saving scam devices. At the end of that post I had to say that the jury was still out on these types of systems. There was plenty of back and forth from folks who felt that hydrogen hybrids were scams and those that claimed they had installed the devices and they actually worked.

If Ronn Motors has truly built it into a production supercar, and it works, that would kind of put the kibosh on any naysayers out there now, wouldn’t it? Not only would the development and production of this car validate the functionality of hydrogen hybrids, it also could spur a broader public interest and recognition of the technology.

As of right now, it’s only a test car and some of the quotes from Ronn executives suggest they haven’t actually installed a hydrogen generator into the vehicle yet. But as the Hydrogen Cars & Vehicles blog puts it: “Move over Bugatti, Lamborghini and Saleen, the Ronn Motors Scorpion is a supercar that will scoot 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and achieve 40 mpg, too.” I mean, if it’s true, this appears to be an awesome development.

  1. I read this blog pertaining to a relatively inexpensive way to burn Hydrogen in your car. Its not the home made mayonnaise jar crap, its a professionally manufactured one out of stainless steel. Looks interesting. Just a FYI. The blog is

  2. Sheri,

Have you ever heard of desalization plants. They can take remove salt from saltwater and as we know about 70% of the planet is covered by water - 236 billion trillion gallons. That is a whole lot more feasable them corn, bio fuels and gosh - oil and it has a reusable bi product…water!

  3. Correct me if I’m wrong… but didn’t Honda develop the first hydrogen car??? It’s called the FCX and came out in the late 1990s. I will be writing a blog about this vehicle line on my website http://www.motorcarscleveland.com You should go check it out. There will be video footage and all kinds of neat media proving how environmentally safe and efficient this car is.

  4. Awesome looking car! Especially, the blue & green version. I’m a believer that HHO works. I do mobile mechanic repairs and saw my first D.I.Y. kit under the hood of a 92′ Jeep Cherokee roughly 3 days ago. The gentleman claimed to have been getting 18 mpg using straight unleaded fuel, and 32 mpg after installing the HHO unit.

Having just finished building, and installing my own version of a home-made HHO system for my 1990 Dodge Ramcharger 4×4, I am HOOKED!!!

Although, I cannot give the exact increase in mpg as of yet ( still testing the unit) my truck definitely has more HP, and my foots riding higher on the pedal, suggesting better combustion = less fuel. My only concern with the HHO induction system is corrosion, as it has already begun to tarnish the 304 grade stainless steel wire I used as the coil for the fuel cell. I have heard other major car developers using platinum plates, and having similar issues with corrosion on the fuel. Considering the unit I built cost only $45, I’ll gladly replace the coil every 6 months if need be. :)

Regarding the concern about creating water shortages, the unit I built uses 1 liter of water, and if it works according to the average statistics I’ve researched, should produce the equivalent of 1,800 gallons of fuel (HHO gas), and only needs to be changed every 8 weeks. Amounting to roughly 6 liters = 1.5 gallons of water, per vehicle, per year! And emits water through the exhaust, replacing some of the water safely back into the atmosphere.

HHO, Brown’s Gas, Water for Fuel has been around for years, and is rumored that the first patent on the hybrid fuel cell (similar to the one I just built) dates back to the 1930’s and was purchased by a petroleum company in an effort to silence HHO’S powerful technology, and redirect the focus on the reliance we placed in gasoline(s).

If all goes well, I’ll market my version of the HHO Hybrid Kit, and buy one of these Scorpion’s.

    Peace

  5. this is brilliant! i had my ben franklin moment last year and have been dreaming of a real hybrid since. it feels very exciting to know that this is a step in human evolution devoting to the preservation phase. smaht! very smaht. noted how the guy said “pick your poisons.” next people should note which potions are “pass” and which are “fail.” after all we have both our vehicles to take care of.
—sandy “the rebirth of a hypocrite.” :)

  6. some lady mentions how precious water is and how much we need to conserve it! all the alcohol she’s been consuming on saturday nights is fogging up her brain capacity. through evaporation water is a self recycling resource! it’s one of necessary elements for a reason. think of how grateful the trees would be for this one.

  7. how expensive do they plan on making these things anyway? companies usually tend to get exclusive when they first put something this hot out on the market, but a few years down the road hopefully they’ll make these affordable for everyone. the world doesn’t repair itself overnight. it’s a long process. but i’m so glad to be around to witness this turning of the tide. 10 points awarded to the human team!

  8. when? and if? this type of car becomes available on a Henry ford type scenario, makes no difference really.
Has anyone got any solutions for straightening out the failing world economy and the fact that it does wholly rely on oil production.
MP’s who do have any intelligence will wisely try to pacify the general public so as not to instill mass hysteria.
the world poulation has over doubled in in just over thirty years.
so yes ! i’d love a water fueled car too, but only so i can say to the ignorent, i did my bit for cleaning up the planet !
my educated gestimates tell me that we are not going to last another 100 years or alot less.
my solution is to get rid of nearly six bilion people but save what we have learned for a new world with less people on it?
Then we can do the same shit all over again?
live in hope that YOU MIGHT BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE A SURVIVOR.
CAN YOU LIVE WITH THAT ?

  9. Have worn out honda civic 1.5. 1995 model. Have installed the very basic hydrogen rig with the additional condenser jar. Ran the car dry. Put two gallons in. 25 miles into the test run to empty again. Notes: the car starts much faster, idles smoother, the plugs are half as tan as they were. If I make another fifty miles in the next two days my mpg will have gone from 25 to 33+. Combo light city plus hwy. So far so good. Next install 2005 chevy Blazer 20 mpg best hwy with straight six. You see more home done rigs. Every place I go to buy wire, switches, tubing the retailers ask if mine is working yet. I’ll take a 30 % increase any day just look around you. Liked the custom but out of the regular guys buget.
