Company Unveils Hydrogen Hybrid Supercar: Available Fall 2008

Ronn Motors Scorpion

Well, here it is folks. A company has finally gone and built the controversial hydrogen hybrid system (or hydrogen injection, or Water4Gas or HHO system – choose your poison) into what appears to be a true production car. Not only that, the car looks, well, stunning… to put it mildly.

Ronn Motors of Austin, Texas, yesterday unveiled what they’re calling “the key to a new generation of “green cars.” The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronn Maxwell, had this to say about it:

“What we are revealing today is an innovation in the automotive industry and demonstrates American ingenuity at a time of real need. We’re designing and building cars with performance components and unique styling with the objective of making the new environmentally friendly vehicle stand out with never before seen style and approximately 40 mpg plus efficiency.”

I recently featured this type of hydrogen-on-demand hybrid system in a Gas 2.0 post about potential fuel saving scam devices. At the end of that post I had to say that the jury was still out on these types of systems. There was plenty of back and forth from folks who felt that hydrogen hybrids were scams and those that claimed they had installed the devices and they actually worked.

If Ronn Motors has truly built it into a production supercar, and it works, that would kind of put the kibosh on any naysayers out there now, wouldn’t it? Not only would the development and production of this car validate the functionality of hydrogen hybrids, it also could spur a broader public interest and recognition of the technology.

As of right now, it’s only a test car and some of the quotes from Ronn executives suggest they haven’t actually installed a hydrogen generator into the vehicle yet. But as the Hydrogen Cars & Vehicles blog puts it: “Move over Bugatti, Lamborghini and Saleen, the Ronn Motors Scorpion is a supercar that will scoot 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and achieve 40 mpg, too.” I mean, if it’s true, this appears to be an awesome development.

  1. This thing will work. there are plenty of people with this scam out there that one of them has got to make it work. There are kits out there that you can do this your self for under 100$. Is it convenient? NO. Thats why it hasn’t been mass marketed yet. Who want to change out there HHO solution once a week. I have hard eneogh time checking my oil. I would like to see more of theses thing come into production and maybe someone will make it more user friendly, or americans can just stop being so fu$%ing lazy.

  2. Red car, Red wind.

  3. If anyone thinks you can run a car of water … think again. If you could generate enough electricity for electrolyzes to create meaningful amounts of hydrogen … just run a flipping electric motor! If you use very high temperatures, you can get about 50% of the electricity you put into electrolyzes back in terms of Hydrogen gas … but this is not very high temperatures, so it is waaaay less. So instead of throwing 50%+ of the electricity away in the process, just pump it into a electric motor which is 95%+ efficient!

Just to a search on google for water for fuel … and you’ll find that this is scam that is popping up all over the place with high fuel prices.

Contrary to popular believe it seems, engineers and scientists are working on ways to use alternative fuels and have been for a long time … some guy in his garage is not going to suddenly solve the energy crisis.

  4. This sounds like voodoo magic to me. They say that the system uses batteries to make hydrogen gas via electrolysis which is then added to your regular gas/air mixture to reduce gas use.

The problem with this is that it’s stupid.

Battery -> H2 electrolysis is only about 60-70% efficient and then burning the H2 is only 80% efficient

If you convert the electricity from the battery directly to kinetic energy you skip those losses and get much higher efficiency!

This is pure BS crap and I’m pretty upset that a blog like yours can even post this crap press release to their fancy ‘please invest’ website without pointing out what clear scam artists these guys are.

  5. This car is really beautiful. But I’m still skeptical, this water using system seems great but if anyone can do it, why doesn’t car manufacturers use this technology? I started to search for information about alternative fuel solutions and the HOD (hydrogen-on-demand) method sounds interesting. Somebody know about this site: http://www.water4gasdownloads.com ?

  6. om - This red hot car is green in reality.

  7. HAFC(Hydrogen Assist Fuel Cell) is NOW for most gas autos as an add on at a kit price of $1100. It is installable by most any competent mechanic but needs to be tuned by a certified company mechanic to benefit from the efficiency it can produce. It is guaranteed to provide a minimum of 50% in MPG! Many vehicles are achieving over 100MPG. See http://bwt.jeffotto.com/sr/dweber.php

  8. Hey guys, I found the designers website, this guy is f***ing amazing!

    http://www.gryphonauto.com/

Evidently his name is Jonathan Griffin & I think he does this sh*t all by himself. I don’t know if this tech is real or not, but godd*mn, if one guy pulled this off, I wonder what other cool stuff we’ll see in the next few years! I hope Tesla or Lotus hires him.

  9. What many don’t know or understand is that this tech has been around for decades. There are engines that can and do run soley on HHO from a hydrogen generator. The reason people haven’t heard of it is big oil doesn’t want you to or they would be out of business. HHO will run just about any internal combustion engine. Car, truck, train, plane, ect. HHO is almost here. Fossil fuels demand will deminish greatly. The oil producers know this and are ripping off the world for every last dime they can get before this Hydrogen tech takes over. Only problem is, before it does take over, gas in the US will hit $10 a gallon.

  10. Nice!
