Want to Test Drive a Hydrogen Powered Car? GM's "Project Driveway" Looking For Drivers

Testing the New Equinox Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle

Equinox Fuel Cell VehicleGM’s new Equinox hydrogen fuel cell electric cars are on the road. Well, one hundred of them are, and you can apply to become a test driver for three months.

The Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell has been honored with the Green Car Journal’s Green Car Vision Award, the first time the magazine has recognized a limited-production vehicle for its forward-thinking technologies. “Project Driveway” is the first large-scale market test of fuel cell vehicles with real drivers.

If you live or work in metropolitan New York City; Washington, D.C.; or southern California, you may be eligible to test-drive an Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle. You must be at least 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver’s license. If you qualify, General Motors will provide the fuel, maintenance, insurance, OnStar service and a support team for a three month period. You drive what appears to be a very cool car, and give your feedback.

Visit www.chevrolet.com/fuelcell/checkzipcode for more about “Project Driveway,” and check out this informative and interesting short video made by a current test driver.

If you flood the market sooner than other non-american companies you could end up with a very good foot hold and turn things around for GM. The key is to listen to the market. You just might find that people want economy but want luxury options too. If GM had offered something like that I might have bought GM instead of Nissan.

We need these cars. We need to push the for more fuel stations open to the public.

I spoke to an owner of a chain of gas stations, and he told me that one of the big oil companies says they do not expect to have fueling sites for these vechiles for at least nother 10 years. I feel if we have more of these cars on the road ways then we should see more fueling stations.

I think this may just the wave of the future and if the BIG 3 start putting the fuel cell cars on the road at a price which we all can afford then we, as Americans, will have an edge over import cars (ie Prius-Toyota). Another plus would be if all these cars were made completely in the US. It would be a win win situation. More jobs=more money=more spending=better economy.

The prise is the country/company to make a viable affordable replacement for the gasoline engine. Whoever does that will the lion share of the market for years to come with the right push hydrogen could be the one. easy to produce, pollution almost null. Could out do natural gas. if the infrastructure can take hold.
