Stupid Stupid Stupid,

Coal to diesel has been around for 50 years. This tech. is now clean and enviromentally safe. So to put raw coal in a truck is nonsense. Is this the Co. that wants a 9 billion dollar bailout? How much did they spend to design this rub goldberg contraption?

Stupid is the understatement of the year. I had some fears that this would happen when american environmental groups started flirting with the isolationist/security movement and using "oil independance" as an argument.

Pollution and antropogenic carbondioxide in the atmosphere are the real problems. Ending the use of fossile fuels the goal. Disregarding CO2 concerns, coal is much more polluting than oil or gas. It contains large amounts of toxic and radioactive materials.

Large scale utilization of coal for fuel is just plain crazy.

If guilt by association is added to the argument the only two governments who have applied coal->liquids where nazi-germany and the apartheid regime in south africa. I guess the US really want to go in that league in more ways than one.
