New York Power Authority to Test Subaru R1e Electric Car

Suburu R1e in New York CityState-of-the art, fast-charge lithium batteries power this two-seat electric car, capable of speeds up to 105 mph and a range of up to 54 miles.

Based on Subaru’s R1 minicar now being sold in Japan, the R1e was developed in partnership with the Tokyo electric Power Company, Inc.

An AC permanent magnet synchronized motor produces 54 hp, and can be quick-charged to 80-percent capacity in 15 minutes while connected to a standard household outlet. A full charge is achieved in 8 hours.

The NYPA will add the car to its vehicle fleet this summer.

Wow, I’d love to test drive that little car. But who needs to go 105mph in NYC? Except maybe the police. If a cop drove up in one of those, I admit – I’d laugh.

How cool would it be if Flexcar (or similar service) used those little cars for city-only traffic and included a charging station at their parking spots?

What an irrelevancy and meaningless car. A 54 mile range is barely more than the Chevy Volt and less than the BYD F6. Add AC usage and you’re lucky to get 45 miles or be able to reach destinations a mere 12 miles away. The fact that ZENN Motors just announced plans to produce an EEStor powered EV with 250 miles of range, a 5 minute recharge time and an unlimited lifetime battery makes car such as this one from Subaru total nonentities.

it is not too much, heh. Seams we should wait for real cars long time yet.

I think that electric cars are a good thing and about time someone got of their behinds and did something.I’m looking forward to owning one, where I live is all within the distance, and it would save me fuel costs on another type of vehicle.Oh yeah if it’s an email address you want that should be said rather than just address.
